Additional Policy Management

This topic describes additional policy management options.

Activate and deactivate policies

You can activate or deactivate a Policy at any time.

  1. From the EPM Management Console, select Policies, Application Groups, or Advanced Policies and select the specific Policy.

  2. For Policies and Advanced Policies, select Activate or Deactivate from the Actions menu.

  3. For Application Groups, select Activate App Group or Deactivate App Group from the Groups menu.

Export policies

The Export option allows you to create a .VPF file that contains all the policies. This file can then be re-imported later, if needed.

If the exported Policies depend on other elements such as End-user UI dialogs, these elements are also included in the resulting VFP file.

  1. From the EPM Management Console, select Policies, then select either Application Groups or Advanced Policies.

  2. For Advanced Policies, select Export from the Actions menu and then select one of the export options.

  3. For Application Groups, select the Application Group and select Export from the Groups menu and then select one of the export options.

If you select the Trusted Sources Application Group, select Export from the Trusted Sources menu and then select one of the export options.

Import policies

The Import option enables you to import policies that were previously exported to a VFP file.

  1. From the EPM Management Console, select Policies, Policies > Application Groups , or Policies > Advanced Policies.

  2. For Policies, select Import... from the Actions menu.

From Policies, you can import all policies, both advanced policies and application group policies.

  3. For Advanced Policies, select Import... from the Actions menu.

  4. For Application Groups, select the Application Group and select Import... from the Groups menu.

If you select the Trusted Sources Application Group, select Import Trusted Sources... from the Trusted Sources menu.

  • If the VFP file contains other elements, such as end user UI dialogs, these elements are also imported.
  • After Policies are imported, they are always initially inactive. Ensure that you review the Policies before making them active.

Push policies

When a policy has been changed or several Policies are undergoing the same operation simultaneously (activated/deactivated/deleted and so on), the EPM Server sends only the changed Policies to Computers where the changed Policies are targeted. This greatly optimizes the traffic consumption and Policy update speed.

The Push Policies command re-sends all Policies in the Set, as if they have all been changed.

It is advisable to use Push Policies only when you want to ensure that all Policies are delivered, regardless of possible previous communication and other issues.

  1. From the EPM Management Console, select Policies > Advanced Policies.

  2. From the Actions menu, select Push Policies.
